  • The IBM 8271 Nways Ethernet LAN Switch Model 216 provides high-speed forwarding of Ethernet frames among the shared or dedicated Ethernet segments attached to each of its sixteen ports. Maximum bandwidth of Ethernet networks segmented using the IBM 8271-216 is expanded 800-1600% of that available in the non-segmented network. The IBM 8271-216 includes a Universal Feature Slot that supports several different, optional Feature Cards that provide additional ports to augment the sixteen Ethernet ports standard in the base product
  • Transports Ethernet frames among sixteen shared or dedicated Ethernet LAN segments via twisted pair media (UTP/STP) using RJ-45 connectors
  • Will double bandwidth to the single LAN station on a dedicated LAN segment from the usual 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps by using the full duplex capabilities of the IBM 8271 and full duplex Ethernet adapters
  • Includes out-of-band console management facilities (accessible via serial port or TELNET) and an SNMP agent that allows control from a central SNMP management station such as one running Nways Manager for Windows, Nways Campus Manager LAN for AIX, or Nways Campus Manager LAN for HP OpenView HP-UX
  • Includes two Universal Feature Slots that support optional Universal Feature Cards which provide additional ports
